Cultural horse raid, Brasilia 50 Years anniversary foundation

Rio de Janeiro - The “"Cultural horse raid, Brasilia 50 Years” project has been presented to the Brazilian press and guests during a ceremony held in the wonderful scenery of the Contemporary Art Museum (Mac) in the Guanabara bay in Niteroi city, just in front of the Rio de Janeiro cost, Brazil, on Tuesday, June 10, 2009. The “Cultural horse raid Brasilia 50 Years” open the national campaign of book collection with the purpose to distribute such publication in 20 public libraries and schools through 15 "cavalheros" that will ride on February 27 from Mac museum in Niteroi to reach - along 600 kilometers - the Complex of Pampulha in Belo Horizonte city, capital of Minas Gerais state. Political personalities of the Niteroi city's and Federal Brazilian governments were present at the event.
The Contemporary Art Museum and the Complex of Pampulha are both icons of the work of the biggest Brazilian architect, Oscar Niemeyer, whose inspired the “Cultural horse raid Brasilia 50 Years” project. Niemeyer asked to Carlos Oscar Niemeyer, grandson of the architect, and one of the organizer of the project, to bring books to local people during the riding of 15 days as far as Belo Horizonte. A letter written by Oscar Niemeyer will brought with the books by the horses riders as well. The message of the architect would encourage and divulge the habit of reading and maintain alive the traditional "Tropeira" culture, the one of the interior of Brazil.
Carlos Niemeyer and the group of "cavalheros" will leave again Pampulha in 2010 to cover 800 kilometers of distance to reach the Federal District in the date that marks the 50 years' anniversary of the foundation of Brasilia city. The whole trip's distance from Niteroi to Brasilia is about 1,400 kilometers.
The idea of the horse raids has started in 2007, when the centenarian of the Brazilian architect was commemorated with the “Raid horseback of the Centenarian” a horse raid started from Zona da Mata in Minas Gerais state to Sao Paulo city. For this edition, Oscar Niemeyer asked some action of incentive to the reading and culture. A local collecting books campaign has already started in the last months and collect 12 thousand books of different subjects, donated by editors and writers as: Chico Buarque, Pablo Rabbit, Ziraldo, Zuenir Happiness, Portinari Project, Martinho of the Village. To make possible and to give continuity to the project, Carlos Oscar has instituted the "Fundação Cavaleiros da Cultura" that intends to extend the donation beyond books of CDs and DVDs in future editions of riding. In collaboration with the Secretary of Environment of the State of Minas Gerais, the horse riders will distribute seeds of trees donated by the institution with information publication against trees cutting, burning of the tropical forest and others ecologic information to take the natural environment.
