For the third day in a row, four engineers have been inspecting the outside of the Washington Monument for damage from the August earthquake by climbing out onto the exterior. They started by climbing out near the top of the monument a little before 10am and then began to inspect and rappel down, working as they went. Four climbers were out again this morning, one on each face of the monument.
The Washington Monument and the grounds directly around it have been closed to the public since the earthquake on 23 August, 2011.
