The annual Covent Garden Punch and Judy festival took place again on the site of the original Mr. Punch show which was first seen in 1662. Kids and adults alike enjoyed entertainment from some of the top Punch and Judy shows. UK. 2nd October 2011
Each year the Covent Garden Punch and Judy festival takes place in Covent Garden Market organised by the Punch & Judy Fellowship where Mister Punch first appeared in a puppet show in 1662 as recorded by Samuel Pepys. This is the last festival before the 350th anniversary of Mr. Punch in 2012. An early form of public entertainment which may have originated the term "slapstick" comedy, it has now become an English institution with the politically incorrect Mr. Punch much loved by all who watch him, especially children.
