The Welsh First Minister Rhodri Morgan walked to the summit of Snowdon (1085m) this morning to open the new summit station and cafe. He is seen hitting the summit around 10.15 am this morning closely followed by the Welsh environment minister Jane Davidson. After a rest and a coffee he formally unveiled the plaque for Hafod Eryri (summit station's name). His bilingual speech was just part of the official opening; two trumpet soloists played a tune specially written for the event. Although Mr Morgan appeared hot when he summited it can be seen from the images that he really enjoyed the walk - the second time he's done it. He is pictured at the summit with the British Mountaineering Council head Dave Turnbull and Elfyn Jones who is chairman of the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team (he was in good company)

Summit station on Snowdon opened by Welsh First Minister Rhodri Morgan. Old cafe was described by Prince Charles as a slum and was razed nearly three years ago.

Hi Radiostar. I got up early and walked to the summit (hard work with all the kit). I wanted to get images of Rhodri Morgan getting to the summit on his walk up and show him at the true summit rather than just at the opening ceremony.

Thanks for the kind comment.

Well done for getting to the summit yourself (or did you take the train?!) Story filed in good time too, still hearing about this story on BBC News.
