The Columbus County Agricultural Fairground gates opened October 11, 2011, for the public to view entries in art, horticulture, field crops, houseplant, handi-work, sewn clothing, home furnishings, hobby, culinary breads, canned goods, and livestock contests. Along with the exhibitions of agricultural goods and sponsor booths were amusement rides operated by Dreamland Amusements.
This is the 32nd Annual Columbus County Fair. Although opening with cloudy skies mixed with rain from a north wind, several hundred vehicles filled the parking lot by dusk. .
The fair operates from October 11-16 and is located just off Route 701 on Prison Camp Road in Whiteville, NC, just across from the airport.
According to the Columbus Reporter, the 2010 Fair won two awards from the N. C. Association of Agricultural Fairs -- one for excellent use of agricultural products and one for the amount of exhibits.
