The president of Mexico, Philip Calderón Hinojosa and the chief of Government of Mexico City, Marcelo Ebrard inaugurated the Marian Plaza in the Basilica of Guadalupe, funded by businessman Carlos Slim Helú. Mexico City. 12th October 2011

The government of the City of Mexico (Federal District) donated the area in 2001, which was located to a side of Guadalupe's Basilica and after 10 years of the first stone having been placed for his construction, there was delivered today the Marian Plaza which building was a result of the conjunction of efforts between the Government of the capital, the ecclesiastic authorities and the Group Carso, which there heads the businessman Carlos Slim Helú.
The chief of Government of the Federal District, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, in the inauguration affirmed that one was employed at the above mentioned project with the aim to recover, dignifying and improving the environment of one of the religious sites most visited of the world. Guadalupe's Basilica receives about 20 million pilgrims every year, which they come from all parts of the country and from the continent.
The businessman Carlos Slim Helú (one of the richest men of the world) donated the design and development of the Marian Plaza. Also honorary president of Group Carso, indicated that to donate the Marian Plaza it means for him " a taste and an honor ".
The construction of the same one had a duration of 16 months and that joins for four principal areas: Evangelización's Center, a Museum Guadalupano, area of square with dining room and baths and the public market where the merchants will be relocated.
Before, the cardinal Norberto Rivera was grateful for his " opening and sensibility to the businessman Carlos Slim and to the chief of Government of the DF (Mexico City) Marcelo Ebrard " to take again and to facilitate the construction of the Marian Plaza that during the process of work represented a source of employment for two thousand workers.
There were present also at the inauguration the president of Mexico, Philip Calderón Hinojosa; the secretary of Government, Francisco Blake Mora; the chief delegacional in Gustavo A. Log, Víctor Hugo Lobo and the vicarious one of the Basilica of Guadalupe, Enrique Glennie.

El gobierno de la Ciudad de Mexico (Distrito Federal) donó el terreno en 2001, el cual se ubicaba a un costado de la Basílica de Guadalupe y luego de 10 años de haberse colocado la primera piedra para su construcción, se entregó hoy la Plaza Mariana cuya edificación fue resultado de la conjunción de esfuerzos entre el Gobierno capitalino, las autoridades eclesiásticas y el Grupo Carso, que encabeza el empresario Carlos Slim Helú.
El jefe de Gobierno del Distrito Federal, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, en la inauguración afirmó que se trabajó en dicho proyecto con el objetivo de recuperar, dignificar y mejorar el entorno de uno de los sitios religiosos más visitados del mundo. La Basílica de Guadalupe recibe a alrededor de 20 millones de peregrinos cada año, que vienen de todas partes del país y del continente.
El recinto Mariano representa un sitio emblemático para la Ciudad de México y el próximo 12 de diciembre recibirá a millones de feligreses en el aniversario de la aparición de la Virgen de Guadalupe o Virgen Morena del Tepeyac.
El empresario Carlos Slim Helú (uno de los hombres más ricos del mundo) donó el diseño y desarrollo de la Plaza Mariana. El también presidente honorario de Grupo Carso, señaló que donar la Plaza Mariana significa para él “un gusto y un honor”.
La construcción de la misma tuvo una duración de 16 meses y que se integra por cuatro áreas principales: el Centro de Evangelización, un Museo Guadalupano, área de plaza con comedor y baños y el mercado público donde serán reubicados los comerciantes.
Antes, el cardenal Norberto Rivera agradeció al empresario Carlos Slim y al jefe de Gobierno del DF (Ciudad de México) Marcelo Ebrard su “apertura y sensibilidad” para retomar y facilitar la construcción de la Plaza Mariana que durante el proceso de obra representó una fuente de empleo para dos mil trabajadores.
Asistieron también a la inauguración el presidente de México, Felipe Calderón Hinojosa; el secretario de Gobernación, Francisco Blake Mora; el jefe delegacional en Gustavo A. Madero, Víctor Hugo Lobo y el vicario de la Basílica de Guadalupe, Enrique Glennie.
