Toronto's central waterfront was transformed as Cirque du Soleil presented a special free event created specially for the 2009 Finale of Luminato - now in its third year, is an annual ten-day celebration of the arts and creativity, where the stages, streets, and public spaces are infused with theatre, dance, classical and contemporary music, film, literature, visual arts and design in Toronto to showcase the city's bustling downtown core and the cultural renaissance. The festival transforms Toronto's renowned concert halls, galleries, museum collections, and performing arts companies.
Tens of thousands of people gathered for the 2009 Luminato's Finale to see the breathtaking Cirque du Soleil performace. Cirque du Soleil (French for "Circus of the Sun") is a world renowned, award winning Canadian entertainment company based in Montreal, Quebec. Cirque du Soleil's performances have been awarded numerous prizes and distinctions, including Bambi, Rose d'Or, three Gemini Awards, and four Prime time Emmy Awards.
