Thousands Gather For Occupy Phoenix

Thousands gathered in Cesar Chavez park in front the Phoenix City Hall to voice their displeasure at the current political and financial situation in the United States. People listened to speakers talk about issues important to them and others. The protest lasted throughout the day, when temperatures broke seasonal records and went above 100 degrees. Near nightfall, demonstrators were told they would have to leave the space in the center of the city. Approximately 400 moved a mile north to a city park where they engaged with city officals to sleep over night. After hours of discussion, an agreement was impossible to reach and demonstrators were told that anyone in the park after 11pm would be arrested. At the appointed hour, 40 Occupy Phoenix demonstrators were arrested. Others choose not to be arrested and moved away from the park.
