Pre-Diwali lights from Mumbai

All Hindus and many from other communities too celebrate the festival of Light which depicts the victory of good over evil. Lord Rama post his victory over Ravana the demon god from Lanka reached his kingdom Ayodhya on this very day thousands of years ago.
The spurt of enthisiasm shown by the masses was lighting the darkest night in to daylight and henceforth the tradition caught up. (As narrated by elders).
