At Clathmonos Square- which means the Square of the Crying- a name given because historically it was the place where fired civil employees gathered after changes in government- modern Greek public employees gathered after been summoned by ADEDY-the official trade union-at 18:00. Leaflets were handed out to passers-by, posters were glued to the walls, the van with the megaphones started moving and a whole proccesion of people with red placards started moving towards Syntagma Square at about 19:00. The slogans written and chanted were against the EU, the government and the economic accords collectively know in Greek political parlance as "The Memorandum" aimed to correct the ills of the Greek economy and harmonize it with EU standards which the protesters feel that are partial, discriminatory, in favor of the rich and socially insensitive.
