The town of Lewes celebrated their annual bonfire night. Lewes, United Kingdom. 5th November, 2011
"Bigger than Christmas" is how one Lewes local described his hometown's bonfire night celebrations. As a regular of the annual spectacular (I have been 5 times in my life, with 4 of those visits being in the past 5 years), I myself would be inclined to agree.
The town's soul lies in the annual bonfire night festivities - funds are raised by numerous bonfire societies year-round, and 3,000 of the town's 16,000 inhabitants participate in the processions, fireworks displays and bonfires, witnessed by approximately 80,000 spectators.
