2011 MTV Europe Music Awards in Belfast

The MTV Europe Music Awards (know as MTV EMA’s) is a popular celebration of the best in music. The award winners were chosen by MTV viewers throughout Europe.

Since its establishment in 1994, the MTV EMA Awards have been presented annually, and have been held in major cities throughout Europe. The city of Berlin hosted the 1st edition in 1994 follow by Paris, London, Rotterdam, Milan, Dublin, Stockholm, Frankfurt, Barcelona, Edinburgh, Roma, Lisbon, Copenhagen, Munich, Liverpool, Berlin again, Madrid … and finally, the 2011 edition in Belfast.

This year’s event was hosted by Selena Gomez, an American actress, singer, businesswoman, and probably best known for portraying Alex Russo. During the ceremonies, Selena had several outfit changes.

The event featured performances from LMFAO, Bruno Mars, Coldplay, David Guetta, Jessie J, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Queen, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Snow Petrol and Adam Lambert.

For the first time an International Award was included: in total 4 non-European categories from Asia, Latin America, North America, the Middle East and Africa. The winner of each category competed against the Best European Act for the Best Worldwide Act Award. This was won by Big Bang, a popular Korean boy band.
Lady Gaga was the biggest winner of the night! She thanked her fans after scooping the Best Female, Best Song, Biggest Fans and Best Video. The other multiple winner was Bruno Mars and Justin Bieber, with two awards each.
