A mass student protest against spending cuts and increased tuition fees has started in London. The protest takes place almost a exactly a year since student protesters stormed Millbank tower in November 2010. London, United Kingdom. 9th November 2011
Thousands of students have gathered in London for a mass protest against government spending cuts and increased tuition fees. Protesters gathered outside the University of London Union and are marching to London Wall in the heart of the financial district.
The protest comes almost a year since the first major student demonstration against tuition fee increases which culminated in the storming of the Conservative party building at Millbank. Police presence for this demonstration is heavy, with horses as well as foot officers in riot gear accompanying protesters at present. The Metropolitan Police have said that resources for the use of baton rounds, rubber bullets, are available in the event of extreme disorder, though they have neither confirmed nor denied whether the pre-authorisation for the use of baton rounds has been given.
Protesters are expected to arrive at London wall at around 3.40 for a rally.
