17 November 2011, for the International Day of the student, as in all Italy also to Palermo they have been organized public initiatives in order to explain to the citizens the reasons of this umpteenth protest that joins school, AFAM, university, professional training, search. The coincidence of strike with the international day of the student has favorite common initiatives between union and movements, to confirmation of a collaboration consolidated from the objective municipality to reform the public education indeed, under consideration to guarantee the right and to the job, to throw again the search and to fight the unstableness. The FLC Cgil has proclaimed for this day an hour of strike in the section of the school and the entire day in the sections University and Search. In Sicily, beside the medium and university students, the FLC has organized processions, debates, presidii and shows in order to ask a free knowledge for the freedom for thought. To such scope the Palermo students have launch an appeal turned to wanting to wake up the Country, to make to comprise the role and the centrality of the public formation, to announce its state of abandonment and the attempt to destroy it. Their objective is to open, along with all the members sovra cited, the “Shipyards of knowledge”, places of argument, mobilization and elaboration in order to construct to an idea of School and Public University for a various society from that which the Minister Gelmini proposes with its reform and various from that of the strong powers and of the barons that today leaves space only their interests. The procession is developed for different streets of the historical center among songs, slogan against the Government and throwing of full eggs of red varnish against the entries of the principal banks, in sign of protest to the in force economic directives of Italy; Verdi plaza is concluded, to that the students have symbolically occupied with curtains from camping and activating sit-in and open debates.
