About 2 thousand people marched in Kiev to the National Memorial of Holodomor victims to commemorate the children who died during the artificial famine in 1932-1933. Kiev, Ukraine. 26th November 2011
The procession also devoted to the unborn because of famine. Participants of the rally were carrying about 500 unlited candle, symbolizing the young, unlived life, and black ribbon with the names of children who died of starvation. Names of children aged 6 months to 17 years were taken from the book of the Holodomor victims.
The Holodomor (literal translation Killing by hunger) was a man-made famine in the Ukrainian SSR between 1932 and 1933. During the famine, which is also known as the "terror-famine in Ukraine" and "famine-genocide in Ukraine", millions of Ukrainians died of starvation in a peacetime catastrophe unprecedented in the history of Ukraine.
