About 4,000 supporters of former prime minister and leader of the Batkivschyna All-Ukrainian Association party Yulia Tymoshenko have gathered near the Lukianivka remand prison in Kiev to celebrate her birthday.
Participants in the event periodically shouting greetings to the former prime minister and the slogan "Freedom for Yulia."
Participants in the commemorative rally held Ukrainian flags and flags of the political parties Batkivschyna, For Ukraine, Narodnyi Rukh, and Ukrainian Social Democratic Party.
Some Tymoshenko supporters came to the prison building with flowers, which they put in vases placed on the stage and in front of the prison.
Tymoshenko turns 51 on November 27.
Tymoshenko has been under arrest since August 5.
The Pecherskyi District Court of Kyiv sentenced Tymoshenko to seven years in prison on October 11 for abusing her authority during the conclusion of gas contracts with Russia in 2009.
Tymoshenko believes the court made this decision on the direct orders of Yanukovych.
The former prime minister's lawyers have appealed against the court's decision.
