COZUMEL, QUINTANA ROO, MEXICO., November 27th, 2011.-More than two hundred triathletes from 61 countries compete for one of the 50 slots available for the IronMan World Championship to be held in Kona, Hawaii 2012.
All participants must complete 3.8 km swim, 180 km bike and 42.2 km foot race for a total distance of 226 kilometers. Mexico, United States, Canada, Brazil and Germany are the countries that athletes bring to the biggest sporting event this year in search of qualifying for Kona, Hawaii, the mecca of world triathlon.
Since it began as a challenge between a group of Navy Seals, the IronMan has grown to become one of the most recognized endurance events in the world. The IronMan qualifying series includes 28 events (23 IronMan and five IronMan 70.3) throughout the world that qualify athletes for the Ford IronMan World Championship held every October in Kona, Hawaii.
