Shiite muslims protest against the failure of a regular power supply during the Holy month of Muharram in Srinagar. India, Srinagar. 2nd December 2011

Shiite muslims in some areas of Srinagar took to streets to protest against the failure of regular power supply in the Shiite muslim areas during Muharram. People burnt tyres & shouted slogans against ruling government.

“Our areas are reeling under darkness even during Muharam. So it becomes very difficult to go for night prayers,” said Agha Saadat Hussaian Mosivi of Garand Kallan, Budgam.

Muharram is a month of mourning in remembrance of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Mohammed.
