Al Nakba or the catastrophe marks the day that the state of Israel began to occupy Palestine homeland 61 years ago today (15 May). A protest rally organised by the Gaza Defence Committee in Sydney was held in Parramatta (Sydney, Australia) to mark this day. In 1948, 78 % Palestine homeland was occupied to create a modern day Israel. Remaining 22% of Palestine land is being militarily occupied by Israel since 1967. Approximately 750,000 Palestinians were driven out by their homeland, which is qualified to be an ethic cleansing known as Al Nakba. The Gaza Defence Committed had chosen Parramatta as the venue for the protest rally since it was the site of a Max Brenner outlet, a chocolate retailer which was a part of Israel's Straus Group.
