Anti Internal Security Act (ISA) demonstration
A public demonstration was staged in Kuala Lumpur in August 1st 2009 calling for the ISA to be abolished. Behind this rally are several human rights NGOs and the opposition party.
The ISA which was initially used to counter the communist insurgency during the 70s, is now mostly used to detained political rivals of the ruling party. ISA allows detention without trial.
