'Carmina Burana' is the given name to a manuscript of over 200 poems and dramatic texts from the 11th or 12th century. Although long forgotten, between 1935 and 1936, German composer Carl Orff set 24 of the poems to new music, also called Carmina Burana. This footage follows the ballet rehearsals in the Cairo Opera House lead by Erminia Karmel. In a co-operative german-egyptian organisation Carmina Burana was shown at the German Culture Weeks 2009 on the last days of March. Together with the Munich Percussion Orchestra, soloists from Egypt, Germany, Italy and Switzerland, accompanied the ballet. Exhausting two weeks of rehearsals were then finally honored in a three day show.
