In recent times deadly cyclone AILA, born in the Bay of Bengal, killed at least 155 people and contributed heavily in creating a serious humanitarian crisis in coastal zones
in southern Bangladesh. The cyclone that affected coastal zones of Bangladesh adjoining regions of Indian state of West Bengal completely destroyed crops, contaminated non-saline sweet water crucial for farming and human drinking while eroding fisheries and dykes on the river banks.
Millions of people including women and children in coastal Shyamnagar and Koira sub-district (in Southern Satkhira district on Bangladesh India border) are waiting for emergency food, babyfood, milk, tents and drinking water. They also need immediate humanitarian assistance to rebuild their damaged home and farmland in the affected areas.
