Dalai Lama gives sermons on Buddhism

Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Tuesday began three-day general Buddhist teachings at the main Tibetan temple at the request of some 200 Korean Buddhists.

Over 4000 devotees, including more than 1400 foreigners from 55 different countries, have registered for the teachings.

Dalai Lama began the three-day sermons on Buddhist teachings at the Main Tibetan Temple (Tsuglagkhang) at the request of a Korean group, which he referred to as 'our Korean Dharma friends'.

"Traditionally Korea and other Asia Pacific countries are Buddhists. During these years, it is very important to understand the Buddhism in depth. It is very important to know the text thoroughly that's why we need to teach thoroughly from here," said Tenzin, a monk.

More than 3000 devotees including Chinese Buddhists, 300 Koreans, 1400 visiting tourists, Tibetan Buddhist monks and nuns attended the prayers.

"These teachings are very important because these are for nobility and truth. For me, it has been after such a long time that I get this opportunity," said B. Tsering, former president, The Tibetan Women's Association
