The Field of Remembrance in the grounds of Westminster Abbey opened again this week. The annual event is one of the main acts of remembrance in London that takes place around Remembrance Sunday.

The Field, organised by the Royal British Legion, was opened officially on Thursday 5th November by Prince Philip. This year there are an estimated 60,000 crosses planted in the field and for the first time ever there are specific designated areas for the service men and women who have died in Iraq and Afghanistan.

These crosses of the most recent British soldiers to die in conflict also include a photograph, another first for the Royal British Legion and a stark reminder that the work of the Legion is not just about the soldiers who died in the two world wars, but also about the soldiers who are still dying today.
