Dane Valley Woods participated in Tree O'clock, a world record tree planting event which aims to set a new world record for planting the most trees in one hour, in multiple locations. Sponsored by the BBC ' Breathing Places'. Over 60 people from as far as Birmingham turned up to support Dane Valley Woods in this event. The weather was glorious and adults and children had a wonderful time. Dane Valley Woods is transforming an old land fill site into a community woodland in Margate.

100 anonymous postcard-sized pieces of original work by many professional artists including Tracey Emin, as well as celebrities and members of the artistic public were auctioned off today at The Harbour Arm Gallery ,Margate, Kent, in aid of 'Nicole's Fund' for Teenage Cancer Trust. Nicole Dryburgh was diagnosed with cancer when she was 11. She relapsed at 13 and again at 17 but at 20 is now lucky enough to be in remission. Despite being blind, confined to a wheelchair and now almost totally deaf, Nicole has set up ' Nicole's Fund' and aims to raise over a £100,000 to develop the new Teenage Cancer Trust unit at The Royal Marsden Hospital. 2000 young people are diagnosed with cancer each year in the UK. The Art Auction was organised by Nicole and The Margate Harbour Arm. Nicole gave a moving speech and explained the need for special units for teenagers with cancer. At present, teenagers share units with the elderly and small children but special teenage cancer units will provide the ultimate Home-from-Home environment, with their own bedroom, en-suite facilities, digital lighting systems, wall-art, flat screen televisions and internet access. They will also have recreational areas, sports facilities and a well equiped educational facility, so the teenagers can continue their studies during the long stays in hospital. Over £ 7000 was raised today, Margate's own Tracy Emin donated a work of art for the auction, the first time she has ever exhibited in her home town. Bidding was furious and eventually her postcard sized, ink sketch on reclaimed cardboard, of Margate sea front in reverse, fetched, £500.

Over a Thousand people formed a' Mili-Band' human chain around The Kingsnorth Power Station in Hoo, Kent on Saturday 4th July 2009,sending a message to Ed Milliband, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate change, to think carefully ahead of the Copenhagen Climate Change Summit in December. Opposition to new dirty coal power in the UK, is because of it's contribution to climate change and the devastating impact that it will have on the developing world. A new Kingsnorth coal plant will emit, annually, as much Co2 carbon emissions as 25 developing nations combined. Organizations involved in today's protest included Oxfam, the World Development Movement, People and Planet, The national Federation of Women's Institutes, Christian Aid, Woodcraft Folk, RSPB, The National Union of Students, Avaaz, Greenpeace and the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition.
