Ayatollah Jannati - chairman of the powerful Council of Guardians - leads Friday prayers at the Tehran University campus, in Tehran, Iran.
The event was attended by leading figures in the regime, including Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Manouchehr Mottaki sitting alongside Ahmad Khatami, who sat amongst the crowds of devout supporters. Watching over the procession were portraits of past and present Supreme figures Khomeini and Khamenei behind Jannati as he spoke.
In parts of his speech he made veiled threats against Mousavi to back down. When prayers started, Jannati was seen to make an important mistake by losing concentration and failing to raise his hands before lowering himself.
The hardline leadership have come under immense pressure in that last few weeks, with opposition figure standing firm, and rallies continuing such as yesterday's funeral procession which ended in violence.
