Litany on the eve of Saint Demetrius Day

The annual litany of the icon of Saint Demetrius, patron saint of the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki, took place today on the streets of the city. Thessaloniki, Greece. 25/10/2009.

The procession that was made up by clergymen who donned on their festive vestments to honour the special occasion, by an order of nuns all dressed in black, as well as by school children and members of the military forces, was followed by onlooking parishioners.

Saint Demetrius was a Christian martyr who lived in the 4'th century.
