Devotees worshiping Lord Narsingh during the Narsingh Jatra, which was observed in Lalitpur on Tuesday, August 11, 2009.
Devotees attired in traditional dress during the Narsingh Jatra in Lalitpur on Tuesday. They were dressed as Goddess Laxmi, Saraswati and Lord Narsingh. Prahlad, the small lord had to walk opposite facing forward with Lord Narsingh. Small girls walk as the apsaras (beautiful girls of heaven) welcoming lord. Devotees worship Lord Narsingh on the way as they travel in different places of lalitpur. As per the legend the festival is celebrated to cheer up after the defeat of bad evils (demon) by good deeds(people/lord). It is more believed that Narsingh is evoluted to demolish the Hiranykasyapu (demon) by the prayers of Prahad(son of hiranyakasyapu)himself. The festival will start from Gabahal, lalitpur and it travels in many places ending at the point of start.
