Mrs. Olga Olja Ivanjicki, a great painter, sculptor, writer, dies in Belgrade today ( 24. june) after a urgent heart surgery. She studied sculpture and painting at the Academy of Arts in Belgrade, graduating in 1955.
Having exhibited her artwork since 1955, Mrs. Ivanjicki has held numerous one-man shows. Her paintings can be viewed in many museums and galleries all over the world, such as Metropolitan Museum of Arts, both in New York and the City Museum and National Museum in Belgrade.
Mrs. Ivanjicki was the artist always opened for new tendentions in art. She was a Pop Art leader in Yugoslavia in the 1960’s. Her inspiration is based on fantastic art and surrealistic world, but she has always been deeply devoted to Renaissance. Her works include astronauts, angels ladies, super-nature, cosmic themes, mixed with old masters as Leonardo, Mantegna, Velazques, and publicly well-known people of today. For example, her three paintings entitled the Twentieth Century include about 60 important people of the Century, such as J. F. Kennedy, Tesla, Aldos Huxley, N. Armstrong, S. Dali, Picasso, A. Warhol, Olja (herself), Madonna, Leonor Fini, Delay Lama.
