Discs of pirated Operating Systems, software, movies, songs, games in software shops in Bangladesh. A recent report on software piracy found Bangladesh to have the highest rate (92%) of using of pirated software in the Asia-Pacific region. Sri Lanka and Pakistan are using 90% and 86% of pirated software respectively, says this report commissioned by the Business Software Alliance (BSA) and conducted by research house IDC. The software piracy rate for the region grew to 61% in 2008, a 2% increase over 2007’s figure of 59%. The report estimates that software vendors lost USD 15.26 billion due to piracy last year, up 8.3% from 2007's estimated loss of USD 14.09 billion. The most pirated software are Operating Systems, Database and Security software, Office Package, Finance and Tax Package Software and computer games including blockbuster Hollywood and Bollywood movies, songs etc.
