Every Friday during Ramadan tens of thousands of Palestinians from all over the West Bank try to go to Jerusalem through the Kalandia checkpoint, located between Jerusalem and Ramallah, to pray at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, considered as the third holiest site in Islam.
Usually only Palestinians with special permits are allowed to enter Jerusalem from the West Bank, but this year the Israeli military allowed, exceptionally for Ramadan, women over 45 and men over 50 to go to Jerusalem without a special permit.
