Athens riots December 2008 - To the memory of Alexandros Grigoropoulos 15 yrs old shot dead by the police in Athens. Photos. Greece, Athens, 12/10/2008. --------------------------------------------------- On December, 6th, 2008,a few weeks before Christmas the young 15 years old Alexandros Grigoropoulos was shot dead by the police in Exarchia district, a neighborhood where many intellectuals and left-wing politic groups are accommodated, causing destructive riots and massive protests between Greeks and police force through the whole country and even abroad. One year have passed but what does Greece have learnt? Despite the defeat of the previous conservative Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis and his administration on last october's elections and the rise of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement leaded by Giorgos Papandreou the social problems including unemployment, economic crisis, inequalities and a non well-controlled police authorities by the government appears to be the same since decades now. Two weeks ago, on the traditional 17th of november commemoration, police forces showed once more their power using violence and by arresting protesters without any valid reasons. They seems to be ready again to tickle with the citizen's anger.

On December, 6th, 2008,a few weeks before Christmas the young 15 years old Alexandros Grigoropoulos was shot dead by the police in Exarchia district, a neighborhood
where many intellectuals and left-wing politic groups are accommodated, causing destructive riots and massive protests between Greeks and police force through the whole country and even abroad.
