Rwanda commenced commemoration 15 years since the Genocide of 1994 where in excess of 800,000 people were killed. This period of commemoration is also a period of mourning for those who died in this time and all flags are at half-mast as a sign of respect. Gacaca Trials (trials of alleged participants in the Genocide at grass-roots level) has also brought to light the location of more remains of victims of the Genocide. One of the memorials in the country where these remains will be interred is in Musanze District (Ruhengeri) in the north-west of Rwanda. (more photos are to follow as the 2 week mourning and commemoration period advances)

Yes, I agree Thierry - lessons don't seem to be learnt, a horrendous example in hand - Darfur! Have also just finished reading a new book of Gerard Prunier "Africa's World War" - opened my eyes even more but also confirmed some things I've been told confidentially by people from the region.
