'The School of Life' in London is a new enterprise created to pull us away from our computer screens and to inspire our XXI century dissatisfied minds.
On the outside it may look like any bookshop in the heart of Bloomsbury but 'The School of Life' is really a travel agent for the soul. It offers trips in philosophy, history or art at the discovery of ideas that will help us look at our problems with a fresh eye. Its roots are firmly in the English humanistic tradition and in the ethos of the literary groups of the '900 but the packaging is very 2009: trendy, creative and very accessible.
Books, here, are only the tip of the iceberg. In the 'conversation bar' small talk is banned and on the menu are deep, satisfying discussions with complete strangers. The 'Bibliotherapists' can suggest the right book to read for the right time in your life. The 'Holidays for the mind' are recession proof and aim to put the excitement back in the small things ... from clouds to gardens. The classes on love or work can give you a new perspective on old concepts. And the Sunday sermons on 'loving your ego', 'humour' or 'curiosity' are always a fresh alternative to church.
If in London people are starved for human contact and trapped in the 'rat race', 'The School of Life' offers a platform to discuss and re-discover what's important and what makes us who we are. It puts the excitement back in your day and lets you bounce those crazy ideas off the walls.
