Maximize Your Chances

You’ve done the basics, and spent some extra time making sure that your story’s tags and Media Summary are as accurate and complete as possible. Now, if you want your story to have the very best chance there are a few more things that you can do.

Be quick

News stories become history in a few very short hours. Newspapers need imagery within 1-3 hours of the event at the latest. There is a chance that you might license an image if you upload the story a few days or weeks after the event, but the chances diminish with every hour that passes.

Shoot in colour

Try to avoid black and white. Why? Most newspapers are now in full colour and they want to take full advantage of the extra money they spend to print in colour! They do occasionally use B&W, but it’s very rare and inevitably, the imagery used in nothing short of stunning!

Find a new angle

Focus on unique news stories, features, and different angles to breaking news. In most cases global publishers already have subscriptions with the big news wires- this means they will always choose the “free” picture before they license your picture if the content is virtually the same. Demotix Images sells niche imagery. This is your chance to report your world and the news that matters to you. Be creative, investigate your surroundings, take great pictures and share your stories with the world.
