Prominent Mexican Writers rewarded craftsmen today for their artwork created on the theme "Mexican Births", in Mexico City, Mexico. 22/12/2009.
In a brief ceremony, 2 of the writers most recognized in the contemporary scene of Mexico, Carlos Monsiváis (writer and chronicler of the Mexico City and leader of opinion about Mexican current themes), as well as Guadalupe Loaeza, (recognized local writer) accompanied by cultural representatives, they presided at a ceremony of reward about "Mexican Births" to the best models relating to this topic.
As part of the Festival of Christmas of the Mexico City, " Magic of the Christmas ", these prominent figures realized the delivery of recognitions of the craftsmen who dedicated time to the confection of these models realized in diverse materials and who are exposed in the Reforma Avenue in order that they are admired by all that person who passes along the sidewalk of this avenue. Some of minor size, others to of natural size, between that the realized ones were standing out with recycled materials, (packets of cigars, recycled carton, periodic, plastic paper, boxes of carton) as well as of traditional materials, mud, ceramics, drawings in blanket, fabric, wood,).
In Mexico it is a tradition that exists a "birth" in some houses where follows this tradition, The Mexican births, they are models that can be from some done with fósforos up to very elaborated pieces of natural size, the materials can change from one to other one, from Mud and ceramics and at present of recycled materials, the intention is the same, to remember somehow Jesus' birth of Nazareth in a humble stable and to that diverse prominent figures come as the kings magicians and shepherds to produce tribute for his birth
In Mexico even this tradition remains and his importance is that come together with the Spanish conquest and as way of evangelizing and " to remove from the aborigens the pagan Aztec rites " that were coinciding in the dates of December with the celebrations with honor and to pay the god of the Aztec War "Huitzilopochtli" in that tape-worm habitually for this pre-Hispanic culture to realize human sacrifices with the captive prisoners of war.
In the last dates, this tradition getting lost as part of the North American transculturización and every year this tradition is less visible, the idea of this contest is again to revaluate a tradition that seems to be this one destined for his extinction.
