The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) held their 10th annual King Day at the Dome this morning with a march that started at Zion Baptist Church and continued to the South Carolina State House. President of the National NAACP, Benjamin Todd Jealous, spoke energetically about the removal of the confederate flag mounted in front of the State House. Columbia, USA. 18/01/2010.
The NAACP held their tenth annual King Day at the Dome this morning, January 18th, 2010. The march started at Zion Baptist Church and continued to the South Carolina State House. Thousands of people marched in support of taking the Confederate flag down from in front of the State House. Signs read "NAACP says.. Don't Stop Don't Shop Until the Flag Drops" and "C-Fed is Dead, Take Down the Flag". Reverend Nelson B. Rivers, III asked for donations to Haiti. Benjamin Todd Jealous, President of the National NAACP spoke energetically about taking down the confederate flag mounted in front of the State House. Other speakers included people from the religious community and political leaders who urged people to become more politically active and to support the census.
