Iraq's LGBT Leader's Asylum Application

On 23 March 2010, Ali Hili was photographed in London's East End in protest against the UK Border Agency's refusal to prioritise his pending asylum application. His current status in exile means that he is unable to travel abroad to raise awareness of the human rights abuses suffered by LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) people in Iraq. London, UK. 23/03/2010.

Ali is the leader of the Iraq LGBT organisation. He has spent the last 3 years in exile in London. His face is concealed to protect his identity following a fatwa received from inside Iraq along with several threats in London.

It is estimated that over 700 LGBT people have been assassinated in Iraq over the past few years.
