The 'United Campaign Against Police Violence' held a protest march from Trafalgar square, past Downing Street to New Scotland, in order to 'Kettle the Yard' in order to protest against Police actions. These actions are blamed for over 1000 alledged deaths in police custody. Including the recent death of Ian Tomlinson during the G20 protests and that of Sean Rigg.
'Kettling' is the term given to Police tactics that hold and detain anyone in or near a protest area for a period of time, it's aim is to allow tensions to 'boil' of in a restricted space. But as has shown in the G20 protests it enflames many situations and means independent bystanders are also detained without cause for many hours.
The protest march arrived at the Yard and managed to encircle the entire building, although very few people were inside, alledgedly due to the canteen being closed on a Saturday. (Police quote!)
The whole protest, although empassion and filled with fury, directed at the police marshalling the event, it past withough serious issue, only one arrest was made, due to the bright idea of one individual to urintate right behind police lines in front of New Scotland Yard's famous rotating sign.
