Thousands marched through Athens to mark the 36th anniversary of the Athens polytechnic uprising. The march started around 3 pm yesterday afternoon on Stadiou Avenue in the heart of the Greek capital and leaded till the American embassy without any major incident. Athens, Greece. 17/11/2009.
Later on, the march was dispersed through different areas of the centre and some riots occurred when young protesters and police forces clashed, mainly around Alexandras Avenue and Exarchia district. About 270 people were arrested by the police (including journalists) and released after a few hours. 7 people were still detained at the police headquarter late last night.
