Indian Border Security Force (BSF) deploys its first-ever women recruits at the Indo-Pak border near Wagha, about 30 km from the northern Indian city of Amritsar, on duty for their first day on 11 September 2009.
After the completion of training of around 38 weeks a total of 178 women have been inducted into the Border Security Force. The women troopers will be assigned non-combat duties with their current primary duty being to guard the border gates and frisking of women who cross the fence for farming.
