During Navaratri people dress up as God Hanuman during the nine-day-long festivities organized at Bara Hanuman Temple in the historic Durgiana Temple complex. Parents follow a quaint custom (unique to Amritsar) of dressing up their male progeny as langoors (a species of monkeys), probably to honor God Hanuman, the monkey god.
