In the city of Sciacca, 40000 inhabitants, Ferragosto means procession. The legend says that, in 1600, the statue of the Holy Mary, taken in procession by the mariners of the city, saved Sciacca by the plague. Since then the people thank the Holy Mary repeating the procession. There is a strong participation at the procession, with people touching and kissing the statue, the mariners fighting for the honour of take the statue, and the entire city being blocked by faith.
