Around 40-50,000 people came to London on Saturday 6 December to take part in 'The Wave', a demonstration organised by the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition to urge the UK government to press for a fair and effective international agreement to combat climate change at Copenhagen. UK, London, 12/05/2009
Those taking part were urged to wear blue, and to have either blue gloves or blue hands for the final 'Wave' at 3pm when the demonstration stretched around the Houses of Parliament between Lambeth and Westminster bridges. In fact there were so many people that many were still at Trafalgar Square on in Whitehall.
The demonstration had started with a rally in Grosvenor Square, but was joined by people coming from other events, including several thousand from a Campaign Against Climate Change Rally in Hyde Park.
The Stop Climate Chaos Coalition represents around 100 UK organisations including many major charities concerned with environmental issues and with the majority world. These have a combined membership of around 11 million and range "from the Women’s Institute and RSPB to Christian Aid and Unison."
