  • Today in Bilin Palestinian, Israeli, and International activists demonstrated against the apartheid wall and Israel’s illegal occupation. Following the afternoon prayer demonstrators marched to the wall holding pictures of Bassem Abu Rahmah and Palestinian flags. Those who have been lost due to Israeli violence were commemorated for the Martyrs Anniversary. During the demonstration Iyad Burnat head of the popular committee sent a message to US President Obama and Egypt’s Mubarak to stop supporting the apartheid wall, and to start working towards peace. He also denounced the Irish company C.R.H. who continues to support the building of the apartheid wall. While he spoke the army started to shoot tear gas and sound bombs at the demonstrators. Three people were injured. Abbas Al-Moumani from the AP press and Ratib Abu Rahma a member of the Bil’in popular committee were both hit in the back of the head with tear gas canisters that had been shot at short range, and an Israeli activist was hit in the leg. Later, smoke bombs were shot into the crowd and three soldiers attempted to arrest an Israeli activist. The activist managed to break free when the soldiers outside the fence shot tear gas towards the three who were trying to make the arrest. Bilin has experienced two day time raids by the Israeli army in the last week. The army entered the village on Sunday January 3rd as well as Wednesday, January 6th.

  • NILIN, WEST BANK (IRIN) - As the olive harvest gets under way in the West Bank, residents of the Palestinian town of Nilin say much of their land, where their trees are, is off limits because of Israel's wall. According to estimates by residents, some 5,000 olive trees sit on 270 hectares between the path of the wall and the border of the West Bank with Israel, known as the Green Line. "People depend on this land, especially because they have already lost so much," said Hindi Misleh, an activist in the village. The village, Misleh said, lost over 4,000 hectares of land to Israel in the 1948 war and then another 800 to Israeli settlements which started to pop up around Nilin in the 1980s. "Every year the settlers took more land," he said. The villagers started fierce protests. "The goal was to stop the construction of the wall," said Hindi the activist. So far, the protests have delayed work by months.

  • On Saturday, July 18th 2009, Nablus city entered the Guinness book by making the largest amount of Kinafah, (a Palestinian sweet), the Kinafah waited 1400 Kilograms, 72M long, and 180CM wide. After making the records the PA police lost their control over the crowds, and things went mad, although the police tried to get orders back, but their efforts gone in vain, the out of control crowed broke everything after breaking the record. This event was a part of Nablus shopping Festival, to regain Nablus position as the economical capital of the Palestinian territories.
