  • No Parking boards placed outside the mosque in Karachi very clearly states in Urdu, 'Car Parking in front of mosque gate is strictly prohibited'. These warning signs have sprung up across Pakistan after a spade of suicide bombings have blown up schools, mosques and bazaars killing hundreds of innocent men and women and children. Though these signs cannot stop a suicide bomber they atleast act as a deterrent.

  • Photos of a traditional Shia Muslim engagement ceremony. Karachi, Pakistan. 10/12/09. A local Pakistani engagement which took place in Karachi speaks volumes about the prevalent culture among the minority Shia population. The bride is covered head to toe keeping in mind the sunnah of the early Muslims who covered themselves completely when in the company of males. This tradition is widely observed not only in Pakistan but across much of Muslim world among both Sunnis and Shias.

  • Eid ul Azha is perhaps Islam's most important tradition where animals are sacrificed in the name of Allah, just like Prophet Ibrahim (A.S) went to sacrifice his son (also a Prophet), Hazrat Ismail (A.S), who was then replaced with a lamb. Muslims traditionally sacrifice cow, lambs, goats and camel for this occasion. It also marks Haj, annual pilgrimage to Makkah and its surroundings.

  • Kiln workers are numerous in Pakistan owing to the rising demand of brick kilns for construction. The main reasons for this rising demand are low cost and the extremely hard nature of this building material. People making bricks remain in the lowest strata of the country. Mithi, Pakistan. 07/11/2009. Kiln workers are numerous in Pakistan owing to the rising demand of brick kilns in construction. Main reasons for rising demand is low cost and extremely hard building material. Unfortunately, most of the kiln workers are either bonded labour, working there since last 3-5 decades or are so lowly paid that they have seldom chance of improving their life-styles. These workers were photographed somewhere near Mithi, a desert town in South-East of Pakistan. It is here from where Thar desert officially begins its journey and ends in Rajasthan, India. I was unable to photograph kids working there.
