The Space Shuttle Atlantis takes off for the 135th and final mission of the American Space Shuttle program. Atlantis will have orbited the Earth 4,848 times, traveling nearly 126,000,000 mi. and will be displayed at KSC after retirement.

The Space Shuttle Endeavour launched on it's final mission before being retired and displayed at California Science Center in Los Angeles. Endeavour was the fifth and final spaceworthy NASA space shuttle to be built. This was the second attempt.

Sgt. Linda Pierre of Immokalee, who was killed in Afghanistan by a suicide bomb attack and was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star at her funeral at the First Baptist Church in Immokalee. She was laid to rest at Lee Memorial Park.
