Runners compete against horses in mountainous terrain over a 23 mile course. The event was conceived by Gordon Green at the Neuadd Arms in 1980 upon overhearing a discussion whether a man was equal to a horse running cross country over distance.

A mist shrouds The Big Pit which was closed in the 1980's during the reign of Margaret Thatcher. The Big Pit is now a National Heritage mining museum where tourists can tour in the tunnels underground led by Guides some of whom are ex miners.

Two days of strong winds and heavy snowfall have brought chaos to Llangollen. In the early hours this morning power went off and mobile phone masts were inoperable. Police set up road blocks to stop people approaching the town.
