Mark Peachey
My work is primarily in art photography but I also have an interest in photojournalism.I believe that photography shouldn't just be pointing a camera at someone but should take in as much of their surroundings as possible to give context and deeper meaning.
I live in northern England and this provides me the opportunity to capture a society of wide contrasts, as post-industrial decay and the community values of the old North sits uneasily alongside a new, developing North, with its sporadic regeneration and a more individualistic, consumerist society.
I like the idea of Demotix, as it isn't driven by what an editor wants, but rather by what people with cameras see happening around them.It's usually this approach that produces the most startling and innovative images.
