Around 6000 runners of all ages took part in The Leeds Half Marathon and the junior and mini runs. The 13.1 mile event organised by Jane Tomlinson's charity Run For All. Last years event raised around £150,000 for various charities.

The rhythm/lead guitarist of the American Thrash metal band Slayer has died aged 49. A founding member of the band in 1981, the band went on to become one of the 'big four' along with Metallica, Anthrax and Megadeth.

In the picturesque spa town of Harrogate Yorkshire the first ever march by the Orange Order was held. Hundreds took part from lodges across the country, as the parade passed the cenotaph in the centre of the town.
